BIFENOX
Bifenox
was first synthesized by R.J. Theissen of the agricultural research
section of Mobil Chemical's Central Research Laboratory in 1969 .
Test quantities were produced at the Mobil Edison Laboratory and by custom manufacturers over the period 1969-1973
The
industrial production started in the US in 1973 following a
chemical route starting from toluene , benzoic acid and
dichlorophenol
This production was done on various site in the US
Velsicol
company manufactured m-chloro benzoyl chloride (CBE) in
Chattanooga ,Tenessee; using their own know how to make
benzoyl chloride from toluene and chlorine and Mobil
technology to make CBE from benzoyl chloride . The CBE was trucked
to Vertac Chemical Co in Helena Arkansas for nitration using
Mobil technology .The NBE produced was trucked to the Mobil
plant in Mount Pleasant Tenessee where it was converted to
BIFENOX via reaction with dichloro phenol
